First things first: what is a rogue game?

You only have one life and your put into a randomly made world/map. You must beat the game with said life. The best example of a rogue game is The Binding of Isaac. In that game you collect things that would either improve Isaac or make him worse which makes the randomly made levels harder than they already are and they are pretty hard to begin with. When you die you lose everything you have and you must start over from the very beginning of the game with nothing more than your basic attack and inside a brand new world that is randomly made each time. This is a normal rogue game, Why I am point this out? The new game Rogue Legacy is a rogue lite game. Now I just explained what a normal rogue game is, a rogue lite is the same thing but a little easier in some way, there is no real one way to define a rogue lite game as this one has its own way.

In Rogue Legacy you play a knight trying to get to a bottom of a mystery in a castle for some reason. The story is not a big deal, just a small reason to move forward. What makes this game a rogue lite game is what happens when you die. In Rouge legacy you have a linage and anything you found in your last play though will carry on to the next one. Things like armor and weapon blueprints, runes  and gold. The gold is used to upgrade your families manor which will give you new classes and class upgrades as well with stat boost which will be passed down to each of your kids and to make the blueprints and runes usable. You are able to lock down a layout of one castle if you unlocked that option for updating your manor. There is a good and bad side to that mainly because you take a small hit to the gold you find but you will have the same map and will know where all the treasure chest, boot doors and castle teleporters are.

Linage is one of things that affect the gameplay, after your first knight, each one of your children will have a different trait. The trait is something that affects the gameplay in some way or another which you must consider. Some are good, some massively bad, some that cause mindfucks and some that do nothing. examples are:

Color blind that makes the game black and white(no affect on game play).

Vertigo that makes everything on screen upside down and reverse left and right (greatly affects game play).

Hypochondriac every time you get hit, large damage numbers appear but you still take normal damage(sort affect game play, you can’t believe what your damage numbers are so you will have to spend a lot of time watching your health)

and many more randomly chosen traits. They will show up whenever you pick one of your children so you will know what they have before picking one, also you can only pick one of 3 children each time and each child comes with a magic spell. It is rare to find another spell inside the castle to change what you have but it is very rare.

The gameplay is simple. You have a jump and then you and attack. It works like it should and very tight, not floaty(I know its not a word) or anything like that. You can add to that with the runes you find in the castle. The runes will fit in any of the armor slots, one in each spot. You are able to stack the same type of runes if you have them for all the different armor, an example would be able to jump six times because you have five jump runes and your normal jump. There are many to find randomly inside normal chest or special fairy chest. Fairy chest can only be open if you follow a special rule in a room that is is located or they are hidden inside a room when they are hidden there are no rules for opening them, you just have to find them. Fairy chest can also hold weapon or armor blueprints also.

The graphic and simple and lovely 2D side scroller goodness but the funny thing is depending on what trait you get, the colors could go black and white or a sepia tone with a grain effect and that’s one trait that would make everything close to the player become blurred out in a small circle(the near sighted trait). The colors are bright which i think is a god send and I have seen some nice variety that I seen in monster design but nothing really amazing yet, pretty much a lot of classic monsters.

The game cost 15 bucks and is out on steam, GOG and a few other sites but if you really want to support the developer Cellar Door Games directly, I would tell you to buy it from their site. It’s 15 bucks still but you also get a D.R.M. free version you can download at anytime, saved on a humble bundle account, when they finish working on the ports, you will also get the mac and Linux version too(it’s only out on P.C. right now), you can pay for it using Paypal, Amazon or Google wallet and you get steam keys so you can activate it there too if you choose to.

This game is addictive. I mean it, I started playing it 10 P.M. when i stop it was 6 A.M., I kid you not. This is the type of game that pulls you in with its awesome 16 bit graphics and keep you in with the whole “one more play”, it keeps you going with its hard difficulty but at the same time not cheap. In time with practice, the game can be beaten. It is nothing like I want to be the guy cheap but not going to hold you hand and make things ungodly hard. If you don’t believe, there is a demo right on the developer’s home page to try out.

Last thing I will say about the game, If you have a PC controller……us it. I don’t know how else to state it but just use it. It just helps a lot. The controls are touchy and the best way i am able t play had been with the controller.

I gave this game a  9 out of 10,  a A-  4 and a half out of 5 stars……. its pretty damn good and I wouldn’t be shocked if you like me would put this game as you favorites for the summer of 2013.

Got to love college

Ok This is going to be a long rant but then again, I am not sure if am even going to publish it.

I would think this school year would have been a little different and I am not thrown face first into AIDs infested shit but ooh when i though I got around it, it’s just thrown at me. Right now I am taking a internship class. I was told it would find me an internship but ooh once again, nothing but a lie. When the class started I was given a job listing from 2009 and told found a job…. am thinking “ok…. this is how it should go?”. The the teacher tells the that doing an internship is  a luxury. which makes little to no sense only because it is a requirement for many design jobs. They don’t say it but they want you to have a few under your belt. Now am thinking after this sudden change “O.K. it can’t be this random, she got to have something more recent because well this list is from 2009. It can’t still be in used by the college for my major…. ?”

I was wrong, ooh so very wrong. there is more. The only two requirements I was told at the time was that I need to do a minimum of 120 hours and that it had to be with in my major. It turns out I only was given 3 weeks to find a internship but the school not provide one other then the outdated list. Now that was Day One, you could hope it get better afterwords right?……… yea nope. On the second day of the class we meet up and it turns out I can’t get a paid internship kinda. The professor said that but really if I could get some kind of pay, bet your ass I am going to take it, Living in NYC is not cheap. What makes it worse is that she said we shouldn’t take any internships in which I telecommute, which is just working at home. She said I need to be in the office and treat it like a real job. Funny she want to say treat it like a real job but because of some last minute changes I am forced to see here every other week meaning I must take a half the day off to see her in class in the morning and tell her about my time working there. This means I am spending less time working but more time in a classroom talking. This doesn’t happen in the real world unless I have a probation officer to report to…

Now were in day 3, I have sent out  a dozen or so resumes and only one gotten get back to me  asking for a link to my work. I didn’t hear back from them after I give them the link and since there was no phone number to call I got to assume they didn’t want me. Two more people gotten a internship, but I couldn’t get a interview. During the class time she was telling everyone they need to learn some coding to make their skills more diverse. which makes sense, that’s why I started in print but I moved to web and then motion graphics. I can pretty much use all of the adobe suite with very little problem and can move a project from print to web to video with ease.  She is finally saying something that made sense to me.

After she let the ones that had a internship/interview go, she sat down with myself and a few others that were still looking for like an hour and she said something that blown my mind and not in the good way. She told me I should stop looking for web internships but I should look into graphic design. She now contradict her self in a matter of minutes, not days not hours but minutes. She told me I should find it easy to get a internship because I have so many different skills…. I don’t know what makes her think that. I have looked around and many jobs want a coding language that I don’t know mainly because of two  reason: one: some times I can’t find a good tutorial or web program to teach me, I am in is just horrible on my own. I think its both I take blame for the first part only because sometimes it’s just hard to learn from reading books or using forums to figure out my coding problem. Some people can do it but or me its is not so easy. I know PHP is more backend  but I would have loved a class on that and Javascript back when I came into college earlier or maybe my second year but NO I got a lot of classes that were mainly outside of my major. No one could or wanted to explain why a web major was talking 8 print and advertising classes but only 3 web classes over a 2 year period? I done most of my studying with…… well videos explaining more things to me then a teacher.

ehh…. Here is come music that makes me think.

Mark of the Ninja, more like mark of awesome-sause

Mark Of the Ninja
I hate stealth game.

I just want to put that out right from the start because it is something I think I should let everyone know who reads this. I don’t get Metal Gear Solid. I really don’t. How come snake can carry a remote controlled missile and a bazooka but not got shit crazy using it? I mean really if you’re a guard and you see a guy running at you with a bazooka screaming bloody murder, you would get the holy hell out of there, SCREW THAT JOB!. I will say this; when I played games like Metal gear and sometimes Splinter Cell(older ones not conviction), I just can’t wrap my head around how I am such a massive bad ass with all these sweet weapons but am crawling on my belly and hiding in the shadows or a box that is rarely out of place even if its the only box in the room(I will touch on this again later.).

Then comes Mark of the Ninja from Klei Entertainment. In case you remember this name, it is because Klei Entertainment is the same developer who created the awesome side scroller SHANK and SHANK 2. This game follows their tradition of amazing art style with solid 2D gameplay.

This game made me feel like stealth wasn’t a gimmick but truly apart of the gameplay and is necessary, more importantly I felt like a ninja, a real ninja. Now I know I am saying a 2D side scroller is a better stealth game then Metal Gear Solid but there is a reason. The ninja is unable to carry powerful weapons like a bazooka or a sniper rifle. The ninja is limited to just his blade and small armor on him, depending on the outfit you put on him he can only one attack item and one distraction item, each one has a limited amount he can carry. The tools they give you is more than enough, this is because the game want you to play smart. All stealth games want you to play smart but when they give a BFG halfway though to fight a boss but then lets you keep it. In doing that, it makes me want to play the game differently.

I know what you’re thinking now, “but its a 2D game, how can you compare it to those 3D games?”. Easy, while Mark Of the Ninja is a 2D game sneaking when compared to those game is the same. MADNESS! you say, hear me out. When you sneak in Mark Of The Ninja you will be able to hide in the foreground or the background. The AI will check behind and into those things if they see you moving into them. One could say that it is not the same but how is hiding in a doorway in the background any different from hiding inside a locker. the enemy can and will inspect both if they have a reason to. This was something that really stuck out to me and made me think about how this was stealth game that didn’t feel like you could forget the stealth part.
In all this game is something else and what I would look at as a true stealth game.

As of right now it is out on Xbox Live Market place and on Stream both for around 15 dollars.

It’s pretty simple to do and legal. From now till December 16 you can get a copy on Steam for free and all you have to do is like their facebook page in order to get it.

It will be in limited numbers so you better pick it up as fast as you can. The downside is that its only on PC and you need a stream account but Steam is free. if you dont know anything about Metro 2033 here is some gameplay of the free PC one that you can pick up

Got some plans

I am thinking about starting a new blog, I don’t know what it will be fully but am working on fleshing out the idea. The reason why I am doing this is because currently I am not in college right now, but being forced to take a term off because I registered late and I couldn’t get enough classes to go part time. I am also looking for a job at the same time, however it hasn’t been going so well.

I need to keep my skills sharp or well just working so I am going to create something like a  portfolio/blog/vblog. what content yet I don’t know fully, but I do know that while it will have work I have done, it will as have random projects I will do to not just keep my self busy but to also show expanding skills. You know, learning while am not learning. If that makes any sense.

I already got most of the important things set up, well not all. I have some current computer issues holding me back fully, so I am spending time looking for a work around. I already have a  youtube account set up so I could do a few things with that. I might try and look for a partner or someone else to join me on it but I am not sure about that right now.

I know thing. I may not start it this year but might see about getting the name up as a blog but that’s something I want to do at the same time either way when the computer thing is done I will hope to have something nice and a few wheels moving for 2013.

IndieGameStand sweet deal

Going on from today till the September 26, if you join the new site IndieGameStand, you will be given a free indie game Chester here is some game play:

Now on to the important thing which is why are they giving out a free indie game to a site a never heard of? It is really simple, they want you to join and you should for a good cause not just a free full game. Have you heard of the Humble Indie Bundle?

Well if not the humble bundle is a event every few times a year where they collect money by going to indie game developers and have a bundle of games for sale for two charities: The EFF and Child’s Play. Now the games you got were D.R.M. free and unlocked. You could download them as many times as you want to as many different computers as you wanted, if the game had it, you could pick which O.S.(Operating system) you had or wanted them to be on, most came with soundtracks of the games(in not only MP3 but also F.L.A.C.) and if you paid over a dollar you were given Steam keys for the games on top of your special download links that would last forever(“forever” is subjective but you would get a email with download links just for you.)

What made this bundle so special is that you the users paid what you wanted to pay.  It could be as low as a buck to as high as one thousand dollars and you get to pick where the money went too. It is also not no name games, they had award winning games like Braid, Psychonauts, Super Meat Boy, Trine, The Bastion, Limbo. World Of Goo, Aquaria, Cave Story+, Shank, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, and many other big names of games that had a sudden and amazing impact on gaming.

IndieGameStand want to be this but everyday, and all year round. See the Humble Indie Bundle only runs for around 14 days about once or twice a year, if you miss the bundle you might not see that bundle again. There are times when your lucky and they will include the last bundle into the new bundle but that is if your lucky. What IndieGameStand want to do is do the same thing that Humble Indie Bundle is doing BUT every 4 days there will be a new game in their spot light that you can pay what ever you want for. It looks like it wont be a bundle how ever if its a game you want but never had enough for full price you can get it at a cheaper price and supporting charities too.

Wii U priced and release date

Posted by voltagedx on September 13, 2012
Posted in: video games. Tagged: nintendo, Release date, video games, Wii, Wii U. 1 Comment

I have just learn that Nintendo finally released the price and date of the Wii U for North America.

The Wii U will come in two flavors. A black Deluxe version what will come with internal storage of 32gb inside the system, the Wii U gamepad, stylus, sensor bar, Nintendo Land Video Game, Wii U game pad stand, Wii U gamepad cradle and Wii U console stand. The black will also have a special promo program in where you will be enrolled into the Deluxe Digital Promotion. What this is a limited time promotion where when ever you buy anything in the Nintendo e-shop(Nintendos downloads similar to Xbox Live Marketplace), you will gain credit/points to spend on other things inside the shop, its pretty much a reward system for spending money with them. The Promotion is just that also a promo meaning that it wont last forever. It is only plan to last up until 2014, so it looks to be a two year thing pretty much.
The White/Basic Wii U will come with everything BUT the Nintendo Land Video Game, Wii U game pad stand, Wii U gamepad cradle and Wii U console stand or the Deluxe Digital Promotion.
Now the Price of the Wii U will come in two flavors also. The black/Deluxe will be 349.99 and the white/Basic will be 299.99.

Some thing about NYC-ers

Posted by voltagedx on September 12, 2012
Posted in: Life, Random. Tagged: Life, New York City, New Yorker, people, real life, rude new yorkers, rudest in the world, tourist. Leave a comment

I really don’t know how to say this but its got me thinking  with 9-11 and how some times people talk about us New Yorkers as being rude. Rude people are everywhere, no matter where you go your going to run into one or two massive pricks that make you want to punch them in the throat. That is going to happen every where but to have special new reports about New Yorkers being voted the rudest people on earth kinda grinds me a little.

I am not saying this happen recently but like i said earlier with 9-11 being today I cant help but think about how some people say that about us, even before 9-11 I being a NY-er don’t see us being the rude ones. Its the tourist that are rude. I will give you a great example and one of the reason why many real NY-er tend to avoid Times Square or only go there when they need to.

O.k. I had to go to Times Square to go to Dallas B.B.Q. (a kinda cheap places to eat but good food) and I was 3 blocks down in Bryant Park.(I love the place always go there to chill and have a moment for myself) When i was though going up the blocks to get to B.B.Q.s, I kept dealing with people stopping and walking, stopping and walking. This wasn’t so bad cause i was able to get around most but then when I hit Times Square, I keep running into living freaking road blocks. In the middle of the side walk, then the corner making me miss the light and in some cases in the middle of the freaking street during the crossing. Now you got to be wondering  why are these people stopping in the middle of a busy street? simple answer taking photos of the cars while they are at a red light ignoring the possibility of a car turning into the street they are now blocking.

Another story happened again in Times Square just cutting though it again to walk with friends to the subway, this guy pushes my friend out of the way rudely and tell her to watch where she is going. I snapped at him this guy. I saw he was from out of town and yelling at us who were walking normally and telling us to get out of his way. I could tell he was from out of town mainly cause his he was a white guy and didn’t have one of the many common nyc accents. I really wanted to know who the fcuk he though he was to act like that to us when we never seen him or bumped into him before. So am yelling at him while my friends where telling me to relax and when he dont look back and his friends try to rush him away.

Look we NYC-er aren’t perfect and were the first to tell you that but really to still say were the top pricks in the world is wrong. What we are though is a group a people that wont stand for you bullsh*t and we will call you on it right to your ungrateful face in front of everyone. and that is just because we don’t have time for it and don’t like being treated like we should be happy your in our city. Fcuk you and the smug horse you road on. That is just how we are as people, rude hardly we just don’t have time for it

borderlands 2 skill chart

I dont think I have said this but am not really a FPS fan but two games got me into and one almost Killed it for me but I will talk about it later right now I want to look what was just released. GearBox got a little game coming out call Borderlands 2. and this is one of the shooters I want to play, well not just want to but I already own and play the first one on P.C. and currently playing the hell out of it. I gotten it from the stream summer sale they had going on wish i had gotten a few other games but couldn’t.

I love the idea behind borderland so much that i always wanted the first one on the 360 but never gotten it, now that I have it on P.C. I might get it on the 360 at a later date. I did how ever pre-ordered the Loot edition of the Borderlands 2 and finished paying it off in August and all I am doing now is waiting for it in the mail.  Over the weekend Gearbox released the skill chart for you playing pleasure so right now you can look at all the different skills you can get in the game right now. The down side is that your limited to level 50 but this was the same thing with the first game, but was changed when they released D.L.C. With seeing the new characters skill trees am thinking to myself why not make them in the order I plan on playing them.

Axton

Maya

Zero

Salvador

I wont say these will be my final builds but with a game like this I see myself starting over a lot and hopefully with a few different ways to play. If you want to make you own, you can click on each of the character names to do so without going to the official site and then character then the character then skill tree. I made it really simple for you.

The downside I see right now is the fact that they didn’t put the skill tree for the 5th class the Mechromancer but that is a small thing and I am thinking it is not there only because they are still working on her right now for D.L.C.(It’s free if you pre-order the game, any edition. The loot edition has been sold out for a while now and  I got one of them.) and will be out later.

Be sure to check out the official site if you want to see more about that game.

Planetary Annihilation – A Next Generation RTS [Kickstarter]

Well I hope the video is playing if not, just hit the link. Any who

I am a huge RTS games mainly starting with StarCraft. I haven’t played much recently mainly because there haven’t been many out there then I found this from the guys over at Uber Entertainment. The same people that got me into DoTA(Defense of The Ancients) type of games but is a 3rd person shooter called MNC: Monday Night Combat and its sequel and free to play Super MNC which is a team base arena shooter. In case you dont know what a DoTA style game is, it is a PvP(Player Vs Player) team game inside a arena of some kind. The goal isn’t to beat the other team or out score them but to reach their base and take out their money ball. Players took roles called Pros each one was different and had different abilities. what made MNC so different was that it was a 3rd person shooter and you were able to build and upgrade towers. I will get into that deeper later only because there is a lot to get into when it comes to DoTA style games.

Now the guys at Uber wanted to make a R.T.S. game and they are using kickstarter to get funding for it. I been trying to get the video up to let people see their stuff but since its being a total jerk and not wanting to behave I will have a link up to their kickstarter page and I got to say, That project sounds freaking amazing and I would love to get in on the ground floor if I had enough money. the project sounds amazing and I hate how i cant just put the video anyway go to the link don’t worry its the kickstarter page for it. watch that video and enjoy the living hell out of it and if you can donate to help it become a game.

If there is no link you can check it out here
