I don’t get it, I really don’t. Maybe its because I am older(am 28 by the way) but when even i though of how nerdy/geeky/dorky I was(maybe still am) as a kid, I just was never the guy girls wanted or the guy that’s targeted for ad campaign but it seems to be happening now more then ever but in a weird way its kinda messed up.
The only reason I am even bring this up is because I was looking on tumblr its another blog site that I have been liking a lot and well its easy to browse other blogs but what I notice about it is that is like Facebook but they are people I don’t know but I like them but anyway its not about that site but it’s more about what I keep seeing on it. I tend to run into a well an extra sexualization of the nerd culture if that makes any sense
Take for instance: Lebron James. I was watching the press confess he had after a game he lost in the play offs and the thing I noticed about him was that he had thick black glasses. It doesn’t sound like a big deal right?
The thing that gets me isn’t that hes wearing glasses its that hes wearing them for a fashion thing he don’t need them. This isn’t the first time I see it either. I seen how many people have suddenly made glasses a fashion thing. I remember when i was a kid the only ready I had classes as thick as the one Lebron is wearing was because they were cheap and they were meant to last a long time and thin ones would break easy(I was told by my mother but when I got older well my thin ones never broke from drops that have happened). Another thing I been seeing a lot is gaming and comic sexiness. I mean am not saying that a girl who plays video games cant be sexy but really, look at this:
It’s not that I don’t believe a cute sexy girl can be a gamer but seriously look at this and tell me it’s not some kind of advertising and think this is what would get us into it…. It doesn’t, it just annoying.
I remember a day when I could walk into a game shop and was able as a kid to talk about gaming with what I read in print out magazines, sharing what I learned or heard from some other source but now of days, it feels like people looking at me like am some kind of poser even though i always been in to comics before they became hit movies. In to video games going all the way back to the NES and even remember what its like to be inside a real arcade but now it feels like this isn’t my culture. It feels like its being marketed and well pimped out.
